Over The Top

My mom just sent this to me. It’s from the National Arm Wrestling championship. The challenger ‘Geoff H.’ is a friend from middle school. I haven’t seen or heard from Geoff in over a decade, but I’m sure if I had reflected on what he was up to these days, national arm wrestling contender would not have been an unlikely early guess. Back when I knew Geoff, he was a few inches smaller than all of us. (We called him ‘Billy Goat’ because he had a waving blonde ‘beard’ on his Adam’s apple.) But when we held impromptu wrestling matches on a parking strip in Utica Square shopping center while waiting for one of our carpool mothers to collect us, Geoff would kick our asses. No matter what handicaps we introduced (say, both arms tied behind his back with one of our woven belts), even if it was five against one, he always managed to snake out of our holds put the proverbial hurt on.

Anyway, glad to see he hasn’t lost it. Go, Geoff!
