Mutant Sounds

I’m sorry for the inactivity this week. I’ve been celebrating the end of finals, entertaining my visiting parents, and moving into a new apartment that doesn’t have the internet. Boo. The next music and film installments should appear in the next few days. In the meantime, check out Mutant Sounds.

The authors of this blog are saints among men. I’m not sure who they are, but several times a day, four contributors post the entirety of an obscure album for your pleasure and edification. MP3 blogs are always in danger of being shut down by artists and record labels. Mutant Sounds is safe. I doubt any record exists of who owns the rights to some Norwegian commune’s soundtrack to an unmade science-fiction film (on chartreuse-colored vinyl, natch). Not every album here is going to blow you away, and I’m not sure how valid it is to appreciate music simply because it’s hyper-obscure, but it’s still a refreshing escape from the confines of the rock canon. Great for WFMU fans.

Or listen to this genuinely awesome avant-R&B R. Kelly track, ‘Real Talk.’

  1. Burn the manuscript! Respect wishes of the dead, and the comforts of the living. Plus bonus of creating a never ending “what if” / “what about” scenario for hungry blogger/journalist/art critics to ramble on about for ages.
